Tanabata is a Japanese Festival celebrated annually on July 7. According to legend, the deities Orihime (represented by the star Vega) and Hikoboshi (represented by Altair), fell in love but are kept apart by the Milky Way, only able to meet once a year on Tanabata. To celebrate the occasion, Shofuso is producing lesson plans, crafts, and videos for educators and parents to bring Tanabata home.
This year, Shofuso makes the stories and magic of Tanabata available online for everyone. Download our exclusive Tanabata activities and programming to engage your students, your children, or yourself in Japanese cultures and customs. Activities include three instructional origami videos, a Tanzaku wish paper craft, Kamishibai storytelling, and more.
