Sunday October 8

5:30 PM  –  7:00 PM

In conjunction with Multicultural Sonic Evolution, The JASGP is proud to present "Sanshin at Shofuso: A Night of Shima-uta with Marin Naruse."

Join us at Shofuso for a night of Sanshin performed by Marin Naruse, an Asian Cultural Council grant recipient from the Amami islands of Kagoshima prefecture. On her tour of the east coast Marin is stopping for one night only at Shofuso to perform the intimate music of Shima-uta, a style originating from the Amami islands.

Sanshin is an early pre-curser to the mainland Japanese instrument the Shamisen. Native to the Amami islands, the sanshin is said to have the voice of the Gods.

Guests will be given the option to sit on Zabuton pillows, sit on folding chairs, or stand throughout the 60 minute performance. These options are first come first serve. There will be snacks and refreshments available before the show begins. Any questions please contact info@japanphilly.org

Refunds will not be given less than one week prior to the event.
